Hey guys! Below you will find form letter copy for whether your state is already opening hands on businesses, it is about to open hands on businesses in phase 1 of the reopening plan, or your state has not yet opened hands on businesses. Be sure to copy the right letter for your state's status! Feel free to customize your letter and add your own thoughts if you wish, these are just templates.
It's important that we all contact our reps no matter what stage of reopening we are in, we still have the ability to effect change and be heard. I would recommend sending this letter to those on the most local level (Mayor's, city council, etc), as well as your state reps, and governors. You can easily find contact info for your state reps through the widget on the home page of our website, and your other local reps should have contact information available on your local government websites. If you want to sound off below who your local reps are and where you are from it can help keep others from having to do the leg work of finding that information themselves.

Attention (insert rep name here),
I am a (hairstylist, nail tech, massage therapist etc) who has been included in first phase openings in our community. I am writing to help educate you on the unique challenges and risks that my business poses in keeping our community safe and healthy.
Hands-on personal care professionals who work in places such as salons and spas come in as close contact with our clients as many medical professionals do with their patients. Social distancing is not an option in my industry, as I must directly touch my clients in order to provide service. With new guidelines in place for me I worry about my ability to continue to supply myself with PPE necessary to keep myself and my clients safe. PPE is in limited supply even for doctors and nurses and I worry about having to take away life saving equipment in order to perform non-essential personal care services. I also worry about my ability to keep supply of disinfectants such a bleach, wipes, and other necessary cleaning supplies to keep my workspace disease free. I worry that my coworker may simply continue working without protection because they have been given no other options.
The new guidelines have also decreased my ability to service as many clients as I typically see, which greatly reduces my income. With the additional cost to run my business having to supply myself with PPE and disinfectants I worry about my ability to keep my head above water financially.
Because my work has been declared essential I have no choice but to return to work and have lost access to PUA assistance that would give me the option to stay home and keep my community safe.
The federal government has recommended a three-phase reopening process. I am asking for salons, spas, and other non-essential personal care facilities be re-closed and moved to the latest phase in the reopening process. I am asking for unemployment to be extended during this time as well as extra stimulus for those who will be a part of late stage opening.
As a member of an industry that has some of the most potential to spread disease, I simply ask that real thought be applied to which businesses open first and which ones open last, and businesses that are unable to practice social distancing in order to perform should be among the last businesses to open.
Thank you for your time,
